Simon Indelicate's Music Player
About this website
What is this website?
This self-hosted website is designed to let you stream most of Simon Indelicate's solo catalogue without the distractions of traditional streaming platforms. It is designed without a paywall in much the same way that stables for bolted horses are designed without doors.
How do I use it?
Select an album, pick a track. You can:
- Browse the site without interrupting playback.
- Use the album covers or mobile carousel to choose a different album.
- Do shuffle, repeat etc like with any online player.
- Share individual tracks - theoretically. facebook seems to take a bit of kicking to do it properly.
- check out the what's new or introductory pseudo-albums or shuffle stream the whole 6+ hour catalogue.
Why does it exist?
I'm bored of the idea that making music available means paying rent to platform landlords owned by megacorporations. If streaming won't pay, I'd rather stream on my own terms.
Despite the knee-jerk, bovine anti-AI attitude that has taken hold of the pseudo-thinking classes, we are living in an era of logistics abundance - there is no longer any good reason for individuals to offload content-dissemination tech to big companies. I made this, and you could have done
How can I support this?
Pick a support option at: https://streamsimon.indelicates.xyz/support.html. Share tracks as widely as you like—or just enjoy the art and let me know if you like it.
Can I copy this setup?
Yes. My next task is to remove the exposed credentials and tidy things a bit so as to open source it on GitHub. Fork it, copy it, change it and make your own streaming site—it's easier than you might think.
Is this the end game for streaming?
No. My ideal endgame is a central app that looks like this with access to a distributed, decentralised and federated database of standardised albums expressed as defined databse objects with their assets self hosted by artists themselves with no middlemen preventing uploading and all curation happening at the app not the hosting level. We should do that.
Isn't there a new album to finish?
NO. This question is a legacy FAQ question from the first iteration of this app and I have since finished it so fuck you.
Seriously though
This is a continuing experiment. The Plan is to make an Indelicates version proper if it holds up.
